A simple digital rectal thermometer is advisable in a young infant.
Believe it or not, rectal temperatures are very easy to take, in many cases faster, and definitely much more accurate than an oral or axillary temperature. Definitely avoid the ear thermometers at this age as they are notoriously inaccurate.
