In brief: Lip no, palate yes

Generally isolated cleft lip patients do not require speech therapy and, generally, patients with cleft palate do as this affects normal speech development.
These problems are generally handled in multispecialty clinics with many disciplines working together: plastic surgeons, ENT surgeons, speech therapists, orthodontists, etc.

In brief: Yes,most of the time

Cleft palate interrupts our speech mechanism, so almost all the times cleft palate patients need speech therapy.
But in some cleft lip patient also need speech therapy too. That is why these conditions are treated in regional centers where speech therapists are member of the cleft team.
