Hi! I am 16 weeks pregnant, age 30, 127lbs, and my AFP levels from a blood test came at 31 ng/ml. Am i within a normal range or am i too high/too low?

In brief: AFP

AFP results are reported as mom, or multiple of the mean.
This is calculated based on such parameters as weight and race and gestational age. Usually, anything between 0.5 and 2.5 mom is considered normal. Approx. 2% of AFP levels are high and about 3% are low. Of those that are high, about 10% will have a birth defect like spina bifida. Low AFP levels can indicate down's synd.
