What if my child has an ear infection late at night after all doctors are closed?

Comfort care. Most ear infections can wait until the morning to be seen. If he/she is really uncomfortable and can't sleep well, then tylenol (acetaminophen) or Ibuprofen may help get you both to the morning.
Motrin. Motrin (after 6 months) is pretty effective for ear pain. You could call the on call doctor or nurse and ask them to call in a prescription for numbing drops (that go in the ear). The drops work quickly to help the pain. Ask your doctor for a numbing drop prescription at your next appointment to have just in case. Remember antibiotics take 24 to 48 hours to start working so waiting till am is ok.
