In brief: Comfort care

Most ear infections can wait until the morning to be seen.
If he/she is really uncomfortable and can't sleep well, then tylenol (acetaminophen) or Ibuprofen may help get you both to the morning.

In brief: Motrin

Motrin (after 6 months) is pretty effective for ear pain.
You could call the on call doctor or nurse and ask them to call in a prescription for numbing drops (that go in the ear). The drops work quickly to help the pain. Ask your doctor for a numbing drop prescription at your next appointment to have just in case. Remember antibiotics take 24 to 48 hours to start working so waiting till am is ok.
