Lice {common in schools today) cause swelling of occipital lymph nodes (back of neck).
But this can also be due to a small sore on the scalp. Nits are small rounded flakes that stick to individual hairs and are the lice eggs. Look for them, they can be combed out with a fine tooth comb.
