In brief: No menses

Total abdominal hysterectomy means removal of the body of the uterus and the neck of the uterus while the ovaries remain in place.
If you experience hot flashes after the surgery they will get better after about 6 to 8 weeks. You will not have any menstrual periods ever, you will not be able to become pregnant again, and you will not get endometrial cancer nor cervical cancer. You may gain weight
