Spine. Kyphoplasty is a surgery performed on the spine for the treatment of osteoporotic vertebral compression fractures and certain metastatic pathologic fractures and multiple myeloma. It is typically performed in the hospital.
Procedure Room. Kyphoplasty typically was performed in a hospital setting. Over the years, the procedure was allowed in an outpatient setting such as in an ambulatory surgery center. As of 2012, cms now allows the procedure to be done in the office setting under local anesthesia.
