In brief: Genetic defects
Genetic defects and chromosomal disorders are the main reason for hypothalamic disorders.
Depending on the cause and the location of the lesions, there may be profound develpmental delay and hormonal deficiencies. Many of the pituitary hormones, such as oxytocin, adh, (vasopressin) and CRF will be absent and cause multi-system disorders.
