In brief: Have a back up plan
The physical addiction to nicotine can be addressed with nicotine replacement (patches, gum, etc.
) however, often times the psychological addiction is more difficult to deal with. I advise my patients to have a "back up plan" when they get the cravings. This includes using chewing gum, exercising, going for a walk, calling supportive friends, or meditating about an ideal vacation spot.
