Alcohol can produce physical and psychological dependance.
While there is no cure of alcoholism, treatments do exist. Psychological counselling and support (aa for example) along with medications can help. Acamprosate can decrease the relapse rate. Disulfiram produces severe nausea when alcohol is ingested and makes drinking unpleasant. Naltrexone can decrease the craving for alcohol.

Abstinence from alcohol and support like AA or counseling can be very effective in giving you a new lease on life. Seek help now and you will be grateful.

But aa, for the vast majority of alcoholics, helps.
