My 6 week old screams his head off when you burp him then is relieved when he burps. Could this painful scream be associated with acid reflux?

Dr. Josephine Ruiz-Healy
Pediatrics
In brief: Most have reflux
Most babies have a bit of reflux as their musculature in the opening of the stomach is not as developed yet.
A couple things that may help are: do not wait until the baby is very hungry, they also swallow air when crying and get more burps. Feed smaller more frequent amounts and try burping after each ounce, using maybe slow flow nipples.

In brief: Probably not
Most likely it is associated with a stomach bubble that can be painful if large.
You may want to brp him often rather than once or twice during the feed.
