In brief: Various treatments

Melasma can be frustrating to have and a challenge to treat.
Daily sun protection is important. Often the best results may occur by using a combination of treatments. These include topical treatments, peels and sometimes laser. Lasers can be helpful, but i recommend treatment with low energies, as higher energies can sometimes stimulate pigment worsening. Even when tx helps, recurrence is common.

In brief: Stay out of sun best

Melasma is one of the toughest conditions to treat.
This could possibly due to the genetic predisposition, or hormonal part of the condition. Sun always makes it darker. Sometimes, genesis laser is effective in treating this. However, laser can't be done on the lower or upper lids area that's covered with titanium eye shields, which makes this area difficult to treat. Any bleaching agents used, you must be committed to remaining out of the sun with complete sunblock.
