In brief: Tailbone pain

Pain in the tail bone, or coccyx, is very common after trauma to the buttocks area.
In most causes, the pain is caused by a bone bruise (contusion) and can be relieved by anti-inflammatories and ice -- this pain may last from 4-6 weeks -- the good news is that the coccyx is difficult to fracture.
