Pediatrics

In brief: GERD

This would be a last resort in most cases.
It is called a nissen fundoplication. It might be indicated in severe cases associated with severe failure to thrive, severe esophagitis and/or recurrent pulmonary complications secondary to aspiration that were not responsive to positiioning, thickening of feedings and gastric acid suppression with proton pump inhibitors such as prevacid (lansoprazole).
