My child drink a lot of liquids. Is this an early sign of diabetes?

In brief: Not necessarily

Children with juvenile diabetes usually are very thirsty, they pee constantly, are also extremely hungry and loose weight.
Over weight children tend to get "type 2 diabetes" what adults usually get. Every year younger children plagued by obesity are developing type 2, that may have similar symptoms that develop over time.

In brief: Likely just a habit

A kid who drinks lots of fluids usually does so out of habit.
Kids with emerging diabeties have an increased appetite & fluid intake but can loose 5-10 pounds in a week. If your kid can sit in a car for a two hour drive without having to stop for a bathroom break, itds more likely habit. If they don't get get up frequently at night its likely habit. Your dr can check easily with a urinr test.
