I hit the top of foot by outside ankle 2 days ago. Very little swelling and bruising. Now aches from big toe up to back lower leg. Could I be broken?

Soft tissue trauma. An x-ray can be used to identify most fractures for sure. So, removing all doubt would necessitate having an x-ray. My take is that you have managed to traumatize either a nerve or tendon passing through the area. Unfortunately an x-ray won't show these problems. An evaluation would help in isolating the source of your pain. Thank you for consulting Healthtap. Read more...

Foot sore on top at "bend" between leg. Deep, dull pain close to ankle bone. No bruising/swelling. X-ray show no fractures. Able to walk, hop, etc?

Possibly impingement. The anterior ankle joint may become painful when the foot is excessively dorsiflexed during activity. The soft tissue or joint capsule becomes "pinched" between the tibia (leg) and the talus(foot) causing pain. X-rays will show no fracture due to only soft tissue involvement. Typically minimal swelling or bruising. Read more...

Front lower leg just above the ankle was sore this morning and now 10 hours later it hurts to touch, walk on and is swelling. Could it be a clot?

Technically, . It could be but it is not a common place to get one. Gout is another possibility. I would see a doctor if the pain is that bad. . Read more...

Very hard impact below ankle bone. Can walk with slight pain but, constant dull ache, numb, bruise, cannot touch area and a little swollen. Any ideas?

Bone bruise. Could be a bone contusion due to your description. Because everyone's pain tolerance is different, it's hard to tell if it's worse (like a fracture, etc). Discoloration like a bruise means there's swelling and probably damage to surrounding tissues (minimal to moderate). Advice, stay off for at least 2 weeks. If pain gets worse, see a doctor and refer to a podiatrist. Read more...
Get an xray. First, you should get an xray to rule-out a fracture. The numbness could be from a contusion our bruise to the sural nerve which runs behind and below the ankle bone. Rice: rest, ice, compression and elevation. See your podiatrist or orthopedist. If it is not broken, symptoms should resolve within a week or two. Read more...

I have pain on the outside of my foot by my ankle, but no bruising and no swelling. It hurts when I walk, haven't tried running. Any ideas?

Pain in foot/.ankle. I assume you are a runner? Several things come to mind. Stress fracture of the 5th mt, tendonitis of the peroneus tendons, bony contusion to 5th MT (outside bone in foot). Try icing 20-30min on then 20-30 min off and OTC dose of anti-inflamatory liek advil, motrin, aleve (naproxen) per label directions(provided there is no reason for you NOT to take them) No running. If no better 10-14 days see doc. Read more...
See a podiatrist. If this is a chronic problem, you have to rule out a fracture or a tendonitis, or both. You may have injured it without knowing. If you haven't already done so, i would suggest having it properly examined and get x-rays. If you continue to walk with pain, you risk injuring it more, changing the way you are walking and creating a new problem because of compensation. Get it checked! Read more...

Two weeks ago, I dropped an item on my foot. There is slight bruising, slight swelling, and pain when I wear shoes. But I can walk. My foot is still sore to touch. Should I see a doctor now?

See a physician. I would say seeing a podiatrist could be helpful. X-rays could be taken to ensure that there isn't any fracture or guide treatment if there is. If there is a fracture where the fragments are separated, a reduction of the fracture would be necessary to ensure proper healing. Read more...

I've sprained ankle and the muscles on my calf are sore I have bruising around joint and atfl should I be very worried I can walk but it hurts abit?

Sprain. Many ankle sprains will resolve without treatment. If you have pain that lasts several months and does not improve, you may need further treatment. Read more...
Probably not. Without a physical exam, it's difficult to know the severity of your injury, but if it only hurts a bit when you walk, you probably only have a mild atfl sprain and mild calf sprain. If it's a new injury (<72 hrs), then follow the rice protocol (google it) and limit activities which cause increased pain. If your ankle feels unstable, you can buy a relatively inexpensive ankle splint at the store. Read more...
