In brief: Variable

The kidneys control salt in the blood.
If there is too much, the kidneys pass it into urine. But when salt intake levels are high, the kidneys cannot keep up and salt ends up in the blood. Salt attracts water. Salt draws more water into the blood. More water increases the volume of blood which raises blood pressure.

In brief: How salt causes HTN?

35 F:"how does salt cause HTN?" When U eat more salt that UR kidney can excrete UR blood volume ncreases.
This increases venous return 2 heart. UR heart beats faster/harder & blood flow 2 peripheral beds increases. They sense increased flow & constrict to protect tissues down stream. This leads 2 increased BP which continues till U have stroke, MI, CHF or kidney fails. Consult me 4 details.
