In brief: PVNS

Pvns is described as "focal" or "diffuse.
" if focal or diffuse an arthroscopic approach to the knee is probably the best approach. Pvns can involve other joints as well including the shoulder and hip. A skilled surgeon should be able to remove pvns from "behind" the knee through designated posteromedial and posterolateral portals. Unfortunately, there is a significant recurrence rate.

In brief: Yes

Arthroscopic removal can often be performed therough several small holes, in addition it allows examination of the whole joint and should be performed by an orthopedic specialist.
Open surgery is rarely necessary but on occasion is performed and the time of arthroscopy for "technical" reasons. Radition therapy has also been used either with a beam or injection of radioactive chemicals.
