In brief: Stretching
I your muscles are stiff, stretching exercises are best in my opinion.
I usually recommend that people get some blood flow to their muscles first by doing some aerobic activity first like brisk walking, bike, eliptical etc and then when they are sufficiently warmed up can do stretching. Yoga is also a terrific way to deal with stiff muscles.
