The mesentery is the fatty apron of tissue that connects the intestine to the body thru which the blood vessels and lymphatics run.
Many different diseases can make the fat look swollen or "misty" on ct scanning. This gives us a suggestion that there may be an underlying disease present (inflammation, cancer, bleeding, edema, etc).
