Depends. Could be from nerve compression in the spine. Your age and amount of disk degeneration in the spine will affect this. If you get quick relief after sitting to rest, then it surely sounds like nerve compression. See a neurologist or neurosurgeon for eval.

Glute muscles. You didn't specify where or if the whole leg is numb but it sounds like your glute muscles are tight. Get a deep tissue sports massage or acupuncture to loosen them up.
