When you inhale deeply, you stretch the intercostal and pectoral muscles of the chest wall which can become sore and hurt.
(= muscular chest wall pain). Additionally you rub the two pleural linings of the lungs which hurt when they are inflamed (usually by infection) (=pleurisy). Ibuprofen is usually very good for this kind of pain (either of the above).
