Why would a woman need breast implant removal?

In brief: Patient request
Apart from implant related problems, occasionally women don't want to be subject to maintaining a medical device which has a finite "shelf life".
Occasionally having implants doesn't fit their aesthetic sense, as menopause occasionally increases the volume of natural tissue and cup size enlarges. Infrequently implants are removed during breast cancer surgery.

In brief: Implant removal
Breast implants should be removed or replaced if they are damaged.
Some patients choose to have them removed completely for personal or financial reasons. If you are not having any problems or noticeable changes, replacement or removal may not be necessary.

Contrary to what some patients believe, there is no reason to change your breast implants as part of "routine maintenance" unless there is a problem with the implant.

In brief: Many Reasons.
A patient may request breast implant removal because of complications that occur; such complications may include ( for example) repeated episodes of breast implant encapsulation ( heavy thick scar tissue around breast implant) or infection.
Also, patients may choose to have breast implants removed for personal reasons ( “i feel better without having foreign bodies in this stage of my life").

In brief: Problems
Implants are typically removed if there is a leak or damage verified by mammogram, mri, or capsular contracture causing pain or malposition.

In brief: It really depends
I put in far more implants than i take out and so this is not a very common procedure.
But, for some patients they are simply at a different point in their life and they choose to no longer have breast implants. The end result depends on several factors including: size of the implant, quality of the overlying skin, and the amount of natural tissue.

In brief: Typically by choice
Removal is rarely needed emergently (infection) & done when patients no longer desire them.
