B-12. Pernicious anemia is a type of anemia caused by vitamin b-12 deficiency. Vitamin b-12 is necessary for the normal maturation of red blood cells but also other types of cells in the body including those of the oral mucosa, where lack of normal maturation leads to various mucosal lesions from flattening of the taste buds to aphthous ulcers.
