Whats the best antibiotic for strep throat?

Penicillin still #1. Despite being the oldest antibiotic, it is still the medicine of choice for treating strep throat infection. It is not 100%, but still the "standard of care." it is sometime not used because of penicillin allergies or because of younger age (adolescent/teen-more difficult with schedule--school/sports etc) due to required frequency of use --4x/day for 10 days.. Good luck.
Penicillin. Penicillin is inexpensive, limited in bacterial spectrum so unlikely to cause as many overgrowth issues, effective against the bug and easy to tolerate. There are theoretical reasons to take other drugs, but you asked for my opinion of the "best". The decision always involves assessment of risks vs. Benefits.

What antibiotic works best if im allergic to pennicillan and have strep throat?

Keflex. First, be sure you are really (or still) allergic to penicillin. Second, make sure you really have strep throat (some people have strep in their throat all the time!). Is it really necessary to get an antibiotic for strep throat or can I let my body fight it naturally?

Take the antibiotic. Your sore throat will likely clear on it's own, however, you will have 1-5% chance of getting what's called rheumatic fever if it's not treated, which can affect the heart valves and cause havoc on your body. Other bad things can happen from untreated strep - like tonsillar abscess and kidney problems. Strep is no fun, but thankfully, penicillin still works well for it. Cheers! Read more...

Like to gamble ? Strep throat goes through several phases. The acute phase will eventually fade in most without rx. During the sub-acute phase, the body continues to make antibodies & a fraction(1/200) develop lifelong complications including kidney, heart & brain injury.Antibiotics can stop the sub-acute & complications if started within ~10 days of first fever. Herbal or comfort rx makes no difference. Read more...

My husband takes a antibiotic for strep throat. We had sex monday morning and 11:30 pm. He said it stung a little when he urinated. I may have yeast?

Not sure. Unlikely that he has infection. Much more likely that he has irritation which should get better with time. However, although not mentioned specifically i assume he is taking ant rejection meds for his kidney. In that case should watch carefully for further signs that things are not going well. Read more...
