If a child is always in a germ-free environment, will his immune system not be as strong as that of other's?

In brief: Too strong...

A major hypothesis in the medical community is that a germ - free environment at a young age, doen't allow the child's immune system to"calibrate" itself to an infection later in life.
Subsequently, when the immune system activates itself to an infection later in life, it goes "overboard", leading to damage to one's body ("auto-immune" response) as seen with asthma and inflammatory bowel dis.

In brief: Nature shows us

Data from daycare centers show us the average infant experiencing 5-7 respiratory up to the age of school entry with a decline.
In kids raised in the isolation of home, they have less before school age but experience a "catch up" number of more frequent infections the first 2 years or so in school. There is no germ free environment outside of a special bubble. It's been tried.
