In brief: Not related

The nature of your periods can change with time.
They can get better, with less cramps and lighter flow - or worse with more cramps, clots, and heavier flow. Periods can also get worse as a result of infections, endometriosis, fibroids, or because of stopping oral contraceptives. Many studies have shown that the periods do not change as a result of having a tubal sterilization.

I always counsel my patients that the benefits of their hormonal birth control (lighter cycles, less pain, elimination of mood swings, etc) will be lost after a tubal ligation.
There are many patients who remain on ocps or depo-provera for medical reasons, not for birth control. Try & remember what your menses were like prior to stopping your hormones. This should all be discussed prior to a tl.
