My neurologist has me on gabapentin for my chronic carotidynia. It hasn't helped at all, and she just keeps upping the dosage. Is there an alternate?

Yes. The treatment depends whether it is migrainous, arteriosclerotic or classic. Th drugs that have been used are Indomethacin and prednisone. It seems worse during the cold weather. Prophylactic medications are propanolol, methysergide or ergotamine. Tell your neurologist that the meds are not helping.
