Is small airway disease showing obstruction in the small airways the same as copd, asthma or something else? Prognosis?

In brief: Asthma

In the past small airways disease did not have its own code but listed under asthma.
It is almost like in between the reactive airways and asthma, showing up mainly when someone has a trigger like an upper respiratory infection or bronchitis. It may not show the same inflammatory reaction in blood tests like asthma, but is seen in the pft as reversible process like asthma.

In brief: Depends

Small airway disease or reactive airways basically means your aveoli air sac or known as your small airways are affected either inflammed or damaged from causes due to inhaled exposure or asthma.
COPD and asthma are both form of obstruction, but the latter is reversible while the former is a permanent damage to the airsac.

In brief: Still controversial

Small airway is considered the primary defect in asthma but one cannot diagnose the presence of asthma by small airway obstruction alone.
In fact it is often present in seemingly well controlled asthma. I presume that your fvc and fev-1 were normal and thus would not lose sleep over it. COPD is also not diagnosed by this measure. Air pollution can cause this problem as well.Prognosis is good.
