In brief: Syphilis + Pregnant

If you're pregnant, you may pass syphilis to your unborn baby.
Congenital syphilis greatly increases the risk of miscarriage, stillbirth or your newborn's death within a few days after birth.

In brief: Yes

Syphillus that was sucessfully treated before pregnancy may still yield positive results on some blood tests.
Syphillis acquired during pregnancy will be passed to the fetus with variable effect. Fetal loss can approach 40% or baby may have no visable effect but develop problems later. Treatment during pregnancy helps decrease complications for the newborn.
