Does wheat increase the amount of fat that is stored in abdominal cavity? I was curious if a primarily carb diet from wheat leads to more weight gain.

In brief: Yes if large amounts

A diet high in sugars and starches is probably the greatest contributor to obesity.
The book wheat belly makes the case that wheat is a major factor. See http://thehealingproject.Us/2012/09/22/book-summary-wheat-belly-by-william-davis-md/ for a good summary. However, there are some strong critiques http://noglutennoproblem.Blogspot.Com/2012/03/wheat-belly-busted.Html see my comments for more:.

One interesting thing about science (and medicine) is there are often disagreements. Here is another article that includes some good critiques of "Wheat Belly:" http://blog.cholesterol-and-health.com/2011/10/wheat-belly-toll-of-hubris-on-human.html However, that author agrees with Dr. Davis that modern wheat is best avoided. However, more ancient varieties of unprocessed wheat are OK in moderation.
