For now maintain adequate hydration by drinking plenty of fluids, rest by holiday to work for 1 or 2 days ( avoid spreading inf. To others too), tylenol (acetaminophen) for body pain and soft.Diet . Sore throat, HA, neck pain/stiffness, malaise, &fatigue x1 wk. Dr. at Urgent Care said it's encephalitis based on symptoms&low WBC count. What should I do?

Viral? Cause? What is the cause of encephalitis? Is there any viruses going around where you live? It seems as if the symptoms are mild enough that you're at home typing on your computer. If you develop seizures, numbness, tremors, &c, then you need to go back to the ER for more treatment. In the mean while, TTYD & drink plenty of fluids if it's viral. Encephalitis? Encephalitis if that is what you will be found to have is serious and should be worked up and treated by your neurologist. With a low white count, a viral cause is likely, but can be just as serious as a bacterial cause. I would see a neurologist immediately. . Read more...
