If it is mostly related to meals, and not when not after a meal, then mostly a case of reflux from the stomach back up into the esophagus.
The esophagus is not made by nature to tolerate acid as food is not supposed to back up into it. Acid in the esophagus burns the esophagus. You can feel burning, or even a chest pain such as in a heart attack. Some has acid back up into the throat.
