Does anyone know how long it takes for estrogen to go down after an abdominal hysterectomy?

In brief: ? Ovaries ?
The uterus does not produce estrogen, the ovaries do.
If you had a hysterectomy (removal of the uterus) and the ovaries were preserved (and you are not menopausal), you will continue to produce estrogen at the same level as before the surgery. You really need to ask if the ovaries were removed. If the ovaries were removed, estrogen levels drop quickly.

In brief: Quickly
If the ovaries are removed at the same time as the hysterectomy, you immediately stop making estrogen.
The levels in your blood stream fall within 24 hrs and symptoms of low estrogen (hot flashes, night sweats, sleep problems) may develop within a week. Different women may experience quite a different degree of symptoms with cessation of estrogen.

In brief: Quickly
If you have your ovaries removed entirely your estrogen levels will drop immediately, sometimes even in 1-2 days.
If you keep your ovaries your estrogen levels will stay the same as before surgery and vary during the month.
