In brief: Tonsillitis
Tonsillitis usually causes fever, sore throat, white exudates /spots on tonsils on exam. Most cases are caused by viruses and resolves on its own and do not require therapy other than symptomatic.
If your pain is going away and you do not have fever then most likely you had a viral illness.
