Can HIV survive in blood culture bottles?

In brief: Probable not
When blood is injected into blood culture bottles, white blood cells are unlikely to survive very long in the ambient environment, and with death of the wbcs the virus will quickly succumb to the lack of a host, and other factors.
This is a fascinating question and although I have not researched it thoroughly, am not aware that this has been studied. Would live to hear from others.
