In brief: Need more info
Apathy is a current feeling.
Hard to say whether something from childhood might make one more or less prone to feeling it. Possibly, early events might make one more prone, e.g., being raised with high expectations of success only to find oneself in a dead-end job with few prospects or, conversely, being abused and neglected, & therefore having trouble risking getting excited about current life.
