Is there a way to tell from symptoms if a micro discectomy for L5 s1 will eliminate pain in the calf/hip/foot while walking/sitting?

In brief: Maybe
If the MRI shows the L5 - s1 disc pushing on the exiting nerve root on the same side as the pain, then you have a reasonable chance of getting improvement in those symptoms.
Good luck.

In brief: Yes from the MRI
If there is an l5-s1 disc herniation on MRI and the nerve compressed correlates with the pain distribution, the odds of success are high.
If the disc is constrained by the ligament, sitting will be predictably helped. If the disc is extruded, walking will predictably be helped. These are general predictions and an extruded disc can help sitting and a bulging disc can help walking.
