What could mimic dark bloody stool? Months now of maroon-tinged sticky gunk (mucus?) with & w/o stool. Looks like blood but home occult test neg + GI workup found no blood source. Not anemic either.

In brief: Like red wine?

The color of stool varies with foods, speed of emptying of the GI tract, medications ; supplements ingested, gut flora (unique for each individual), additives (like blood), subtractions (like absent bile), infection, inflammation, ; other factors.
Consider what supplements you consume regularly, foods frequently eaten, or any other ingestants or medications taken (a lot of red-colored beverages?).
