In brief: Ice/Ibubrofen.

Ice is mother nature's ibuprofen.
Apply to achy areas when you first notice discomfort because it stops the swelling that leads to pain later. Ibuprofen(motrin and advil) or Naproxen (aleve) also reduce swelling after exercise. Never take these meds before exercising. You will not be aware of pain that is telling you to stop. Also these medicines thins blood so any bruising in muscle gets worse.
