I had an inguinal hernia surgery in 2010 I feel pain in my groin when I ejaculate I wanna know if my repair is damaged will it be appear in MRI result?

See answer. Two problems associated with hernias and hernia repairs: 1) repairs can break down and hernias recur. Diagnosed either on physical exam and/or an imaging study. Ultrasound, ct, and MRI have all been used with about 65-85% reliability. 2) chronic pain after repair related to scar tissue, nerve irritation or entrapment. Pain with ejaculation could also be do to irritation/inflammation of prostate.

I am 26 male and had an inguinal hernia surgery (open repair) with mesh in 2010. Is there any possibility for scar tissue not to be shown in MRI scan?

Yes. Mri typically would not show scar tissue, unless it is extensive. In this area, scar tissue and normal soft tissue would appear similar in an MRI scan. Consult your original surgeon for details if you are having problems with your operation. Read more...

I had a left inguinal hernia surgery (open repair) with mesh. I wanna know if spermatic cord is scarred into the mesh will it appear in MRI scan?

Unlikely. You had an open hernia repair. You want to know if the spermatic cord can be visualized involving the hernia by mri. The hernia repair using mesh will be next to the spermatic cord. Mri may show approximation. If you are having pain then talk to your surgeon. You may have nerve entrapment you may have options to discuss. Physical therapy, weight reduction and pain specialists. No it won't. You are concerned about patency of your vas deferens. Lumen of vas is normally closed all the time except for passage of sperm. This lumen can not be seen on mri. Best first step to find out if one or both vas is/are patent is by semenalysis. I personally share your concern about wisdom of hernia inguinal repairs with mesh in young men. Of course there will be cases where it is the best technique. Read more...

I had an inguinal hernia surgery (open repair) in 2010.I feel pain at surgical when I ejaculate. How can find out if scar tissue tissue is the problem?

Possible. The open repair nowadays include using mesh, very often is ine the form of a cone, the vas deferns is in that area , it lifted withe rst of the spermatic cord with a penrose tape and it lies over the mesh, this could cause scaring that would include the vas which carries the ejaculate and i might get narrowed causing the pain. Surgery. This sounds as if scar has formed around the repair. The vas, blood vessels and nerves can be trapped in the scar tissue and cause pain. The only way to know for sure is to go in and take a look. This can fix it but it can also make it worse. Some times injections can help, but removing the scar is the way to go then hope that the scar doesn't recur. Talk to your surgeon. Read more...
