I had a total thyroidectomy 2 years ago due to thyroid cancer. Do I only need T4 from synthroid (thyroxine)? How do I get t3?
Don, t need T 3. If take T4. Naturally occuring thyroid horme has both more of t 4 and less of t3 (liothyronine) (which is more poweful or potent) both have same fuction. Only on is needed when synthetic thyroid horme is T4 easy to synthesize, stable, easy to dispense exact dose, goes by various names, levothyroxine, synthroid etc. Just don, t worry follow your doctors instructions.
Take t4. Synthroid- batch to batch more stable; and your own thyroid puts out T4 and all peripheral tissues convert it to t3- same happens when take T4 pill.
Friend had thyroid cancer, total thyroidectomy. 15 yr hi-dose Synthroid (thyroxine) as suppression. Kidney eGFR now 47, sodium 131. Any connection likely? Age 70
Not likely. I cannot put the two together as cause/effect. Kidney disease pretty common. Many causes but thyroid cancer 15 years ago and supplemental thyroid hormone use x15 yrs not a cause for kidney failure. High blood pressure, diabetes, renal artery stenosis, NSAID overuse/combo with ACEI/ARB blood pressure meds more likely cause. Hope your friend has good nephrologist (kidney doctor). Hope this helps.
Not likely related. Hi. It is not likely the history of thyroid cancer and TSH suppression are related to the low eGFR or hyponatremia. EGFR falls with age, and hyponatremia is the most common electrolyte abnormality we see; both have multiple potential causes, but mild TSH suppression is not a likely one. Your friend can talk with his/her endocrinologist to see if there is any connection or needs further work up.
Following total thyroidectomy for thyroid cancer, I am on 150mcg of thyroxine, to suppress my tsh. (0.03) could this be why I can't get pregnant?
Unkown answer. You need to consult your endocrinologist and OB to see if there are problemsthat need correcting.
Possibly, not likely. After a total thyroidectomy for cancer, it is important to take enough synthroid (thyroxine) to suppress the TSH but it is probably not critical to keep it as low as. 03. You should discuss it with your physician or endocrinologist to see if the dose could be lowered slightly but I doubt that that is your fertility issue. It might be worth a trial.
Thyroidectomy 9 months ago. Tsh is suppressed <0.015 cuz thyroid cancer. T3 (liothyronine) and T4 normal. Why I feel so tired?! I'm frustrated!
See Yur Endocrinolog. You should visit your endocrinologist to fine tune your thyroid hormone medication (synthroid). Excess of this medication could be one cause. He/she can also check your CBC and make sure that your blood counts/hb is normal and you are not anemic. Regular follow ups with your endocrinologist is essential to keep you well.
In July my THS was 1.54, in August 0.14 on dosage of 137 mcg Synthroid (thyroxine).T4 free 37pmol/L Thyroid cancer No RAI I dont'n know what cause this big change?
Actually. In the "low" TSH "range" there is not a lot of difference in those values. You indicate that thyroid medication is being given for a thyroid cancer of some kind and that RAI has not been given. I therefore "assume that your Physician (? Endocrinologist) is trying to SURPRESS your TSH (thus the 0.14 is BETTER than the 1.54 readings!! SO IT'S NOT REALLY A "BIG CHANGE " and in fact is BETTER.!!! Z.
I've had thyroid cancer 2 years ago, I take the name brand synthroid (thyroxine). Is it okay for me to take diet pills?
No problem. Most thyroid cancers do well after surgery if nodes were neg. And age at surgery under 40. If all is well after surgery which removes a major part if not all of the thyroid, there is a tendency to have low levels of thyroxin requiring oral supplements and patients tend to put on wt. Taking diet pills may even be helpful if there was a significant wt. Increase post surgery.
Free T4 check. Diet pills OTC are not FDA regulated and have been shown to contain drugs like spironolactone and various hormones as well as other contaminants. Most contain a large amount of caffeine. One diet pill can put a patient into the ER with an arrhythmia. Please use caution. Exercise and a healthy diet for weight loss is. Some people also do better at the high end of the normal range for thyroxine.
Can metformin cause weight loss even though I am on Synthroid (thyroxine) 115 after having thyroid cancer 3 years ago. I am 5 ft8! 150 lbs. I am a smallmeater but?
Metformin. Metformin is considered a weight neutral drug. In clinical trials, the typically weight loss is around 2 kg. The main advantage for metformin is that it does not cause weight gain which is what we always worry about with diabetes drugs. Your bmi is 22.8 which is excellent. I wouldn't worry about it.
I take Synthroid (thyroxine) as I had thyroid cancer several years ago and had my thyroid removed. Is Gacinia Cambogia safe for me to take?
Do not take it. It is an herbal supplement touted as a weight loss aid. As a supplement, it is not regulated by the FDA and does not have to prove that it is effective. Your best bet if you are trying to lose weight is to eat less and exercise more. I would not take cacinia cambogia if I were you.
Has thyroid cancer 20 years ago, had one lobe removed and am on synthroid (thyroxine). Now am obese and have psoriasis is there a connection?
No. No I don't think so.
Probably not. If you weren't on enough synthroid, (thyroxine) it would make you more likely to gain weight. But your doctor has probably been monitoring your level through a simple blood test, so it would be unlikely to be the cause. I know of no connection with your described situation and psoriasis.
