My doc thinks being on 100mg Zoloft (sertraline) will balance my panic disorder and anxiety with taking 1mg klonopin 2x day. I do not feel klonopin effects. Why?
Results may vary. 1 mg bid klonepin should be generally noticeable unless there is some tolerance to benzos or alcohol. Generally the zoloft (sertraline) may take a few weeks to a month to be effective, and has the advantage of fewer risks complications such as addiction and tolerance, sedation, etc. About 70% of people w/ panic disorder can be reduced or discontinued from meds w cognitive behavioral therapy.
I'm taking 25 mg of Zoloft with 1mg of clonazepam, I tried 50 mg of Zoloft but I felt too tired all the time, I still experience anxiety so my doctor is considering switching me to Effexor, I have panic disorder, was wondering which medication is best for
Best medication? The best med is the one that works and has the fewest side effects. Sometimes have to try a few to get a good math. Don't give up - an adequate trial of meds may take a month or so.
It depends. What medication works best depends on a host of factors and that is why there are so many to choose from. I am concerned that the emphasis is only on medications. Professional behavioral therapy can be very effective and it is very safe. Sometimes it even allows one to eliminate medications all together. There are a host of other interventions and modalities that can also help with anxiety.
