Dermoid cysts of the ovary (also called teratomas) can sometimes be resected, leaving some normal ovarian tissue behind.
In addition, while they may recur on the opposite side, most patient just have them on one ovary. This leaves the other ovary available to produce the eggs (follicles) that you need to become pregnant. Most dermoids are benign and often contain tissue like hair and teeth.
