Is prediabetes confirmed with a fasting glucose over 6.0 mmol or do you need a high 2 hour post meal number in addition to confirm?

In brief: Impaired fasting glu

A fasting glucose above 5.
6 mmol (100mg/dl) is considered abnormal. A level above 7 (125 mg/dl) is consistent with diabetes. You do not need to have a high 2 hr pp number to have impaired glucose tolerance. A 2 hr pp above 11.1 mmol (200 mg/dl) is also consistent with diabetes. However, these should be confirmed by a lab test, not fingerstick reading.
