Please help! What is the likelyhood of our children getting sickle cell or the trait if one of us has sickle cell?
Depends. If one parent has sickle cell disease, and the other parent does not have either sickle cell disease or trait, then the child has a 100% chance of having sickle cell trait and 0% chance of sickle cell disease. Once again, this is only true if it is known for sure by testing that the unaffected parent does not have sickle cell trait.
