I found this question on some blogs; sounds like the kind of myth that springs up from a little knowledge and an axe to grind.
The thyroid traps iodine to make t3 (liothyronine) and t4. It does not trap Fluoride or bromide. The amount of iodine in the diet is far more than the other halogens. I wonder if this comes from the people who continue to believe (against all evidence) that fluoridated water is bad.
