There are vitamins, nutrients and even medications and laser that have been shown to slow down or even stop the degeneration process in macular disease. Homeopathy, naturopathy, chiropractic, and acupuncture have not been shown to be beneficial in macular degeneration.

There are also inherited forms of mds or "dystrophies" (means the same) including some that occur earlier in life. Then there are toxic maculopathies from medication toxicity.
