Supposing you're operated on for an inguinal hernia and it's done under general anesthesia, is there a chance of permanent paralysis?

In brief: What??

What paralysis are you speaking of? Inguinal hernia is the most common surgery done today in the us.
I have never in 20yrs of practice heard of anyone ending up with permanent paralysis.
