Some patients become colonized with MRSA and are at risk for recurrent infections.
This can be overcome with a series of chlorhexidene gluconate cleansing treatments, mupiricin ointment to the nares for a number of days and antibiotics as indicated. 2 negative cultures of the nares are felt to indicate the MRSA is resolved.
